This is perhaps the most global form of marketing on and off the internet. In fact, it is often misrepresented or misclassified as a "scam". I've been meaning to complain that a site as big as craigslist doesn't know the difference between Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing. *But that's another blog in itself!
However, affiliate marketing is a simple straight forward approach to marketing that allows the "public" to serve as independent advertisers for a huge host of acreditted products and services. (i.e. Microsoft, Affliction, Tommy Hilfiger, iTunes, NetFlix,...just to name a few, as there are millions)
In fact, nearly every company in the world will gladly supply you with a 100% FREE affiliate account, and give you all the tools, training, and advertising essentials you need to start earning commissions for referring consumers to their products, merchandise, or services. The commissions generally between 5% -60% just to give you a random idea. For example, if you are creditted with a $1000 sale at 20% commission you earn $200.
The basic idea is that you post banner ads, creatives, textual ads (cut & paste) on your websites, blogs, FaceBook, Twitter, or any site that doesn't infringe on any TOS agreement, and for every person who purchases through your affiliate link (*embedded with your customized tracking i.d.) that link gives you credit for the sale. A cookie tracks your 'potential buyer' for 30, 60, 90, or 120 days, and should that person purchase before the cookie expires or gets deleted...you get paid!
Note: Sadly the only downside is if the potential buyer deletes his/her cookies, or it expires before the buyer returns and purchases...you don't get credit for the sale. I know; that sucks, but it's a reality of exploring a genuine "free" online business opportunity.
